“Colour is a power which directly influences the soul”
- Wassily Kandinsky
Bijwasan Arcadia - Delhi
White Modernist buildings dot the sylvan landscape of a client’s property in suburban Delhi. Keeping in mind the clean straight lines of the architecture, we created interior spaces that are contemporary yet eclectic. The vast collection of Indian art, artifacts and antique carpets informed the design story. The furniture in simple forms and shapes compliments the vivid art. The burst of colours and the rich jewel tones of the fabrics not only reflect the art but the vibrant hues of nature, seen outside the big glass picture windows.
Nestled in the tree-shaded grounds is a conservatory with white walls and large glass windows. Inside, the black and white flooring compliments the white organic fabrics with touches of black. Traditional dark wooden Indian furniture and the collection of eclectic folk art and craft make this the perfect classical music room for the client when they stage performances for their guests.
A tiny cottage housing the master bedroom suite is positioned separately on the lush grounds lending total privacy to the occupants. Original art deco furniture which was inherited by the family is revamped and given new life. Art deco lighting sourced from the antique market of old Delhi completes the overall look and is reminiscent of the interiors of the client’s ancestral home.
